In September and October 2024, CPM-I Consultants made a substantial contribution to various events in the NATO and EU education, training and exercise environment. These activities took place in different locations, including Norway, Poland, and France. The consultants’ main objective was to incorporate Human Security considerations into the preparation, planning and execution of operations and missions.
A key event was the Human Security Seminar which Walter De Cauwer moderated on 1st and 2nd October 2024 at Headquarters Eurocorps in Strasbourg. The seminar convened Subject Matter Experts from the United Nations, the European Union, NATO, academia, and NGOs to discuss strategies and procedures for the practical application of Human Security.
Key topics of discussion included:
The military's role in contributing to Human Security at both the NATO strategic and operational/tactical levels.
The implications for training and operations.
The EU's perspective on Human Security.
Human Security considerations in ongoing conflicts.
Participants identified two significant challenges, specifically for International Organizations:
The practical implementation of a rather broad concept of Human Security, which is complex due to its multifaceted nature.
Addressing the multifaceted issues associated with a wide range of perpetrators of violence, requiring a nuanced and comprehensive approach.
